The crack is the rarest type of stone chip seen in auto glass repair. It is also the most dangerous to drill and fill. Drilling usually cause's it to spread. This one should be attempted but ultimately a windshield replacement may be needed. As you can tell by this ones general shape, it wants to run! Run the length of the glass. There is no where for the energy to go but either up or down. This is why this stone chip is the most dangerous one.
The star shaped stone chip
The star shaped stone chip is the most common type of auto glass repair. The legs of the star should not be longer than one inch. Filling each leg depends on how it cracked internally as the injector fills from the center. Depending on the thinness of the star lines they may be visible even after repair. Just know that the liquid glass resin is inside the middle later of the windshield and is holding the stone chip. This will keep the strength in the local area of the chip and increase the life of your glass.

Usually when the bullseye is drilled and filled the stone chip is nearly invisible after the repair. Of course the drill incision point will always be visible. However, this drill incision is microscopic and will be a faded clear color. Like leaving a minor scar on the windshield. This is the best case scenario for repairing auto glass.
